2024 Education Impact Report Released
Newly released report chronicles innovative programs and partnerships that bring Smithsonian learning to communities across the United States
The Smithsonian Institution continues reaching beyond museum walls to inspire, educate, and engage learners of all ages. In 2024, we expanded our efforts to bring Smithsonian resources to communities across the United States, forging new partnerships, launching impactful initiatives, and strengthening our commitment to sharing our rich array of multi-disciplinary resources with every classroom and community in America.
This year’s Education Impact Report highlights key programs and collaborations that have brought Smithsonian learning materials and experiences to students nationwide. From distributing 1 million free Smithsonian books and digital resources in partnership with Amazon and the NFL to launching Democracy in Dialogue, a civics-focused virtual exchange program, our initiatives are designed to foster curiosity, collaboration, and civic engagement.
We have deepened our partnerships with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and National 4-H Council, piloting innovative education resources and creating hands-on learning experiences that connect youth with history, science, and culture. Additionally, we launched the fifth round of Together We Thrive grants, now totaling $12.2 million in funding, supporting transformative education projects like Get a Head Start with the Smithsonian, Breathing Easier: Supporting Teen Air Quality Investigations, and Field Trip: Developing Student Pathways through Authentic Museum-School Partnerships.
A major highlight of 2024 was the Smithsonian National Education Summit, which convened over 5,400 educators, librarians, and policymakers from all 50 states and 87 countries. Themed "Together We Thrive: Connecting at the Intersections," the Summit explored key topics such as inclusive storytelling, youth civic action, and global-local connections. This free event showcased insights from over 100 expert speakers and provided valuable resources now available on demand for continued learning.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to our vision of Opening Pathways to New Knowledge for all. With the support of our generous donors and dedicated partners, we are laying the foundation for transformative educational experiences that will continue to shape the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators.
