Steven Canty

Steven Canty is the Program Coordinator for the Marine Conservation Program at the Smithsonian’s National Museum for Natural History. He has been working in Latin American and the Caribbean for over 10 years, collaborating with local stakeholders to improve the management of marine resources. Steven’s research interests include fisheries and mangroves, producing tools and solutions that can be applied to real world problems.

Can Genetics Improve Fisheries Management?

The Smithsonian's Marine Conservation Program uses genetics as one tool in a holistic approach to marine conservation. In doing so, the Program provides fisheries managers with sound scientific data that can be used for evidence based decision-making and adaptive management.
