Description: Mexican Heritage Plaza will hold its 17th Annual San José International Mariachi Festival. The largest Mariachi Festival in California and the second largest in the United States, events include concerts by San Jose's Los Tigres Del Norte; a Tribute to the Divas of Mariachi Highlights; and legendary "Mariachi Femenil Las Pioneras de Mexico" from Mexico City.

Description: Auction 08: Contemporary Latin American Art will feature more than 220 extraordinary works of art including paintings, sculptures, works on paper and prints by renowned and emerging artists from Mexico, Central and South America and the Spanish speaking Caribbean. Showcasing works by some of the greatest artists in Latin America, the auction will be proceeded by a public discussion on important trends in art collecting with a Round Table Discussion, Collecting and Evaluating Latin American Art in the 21st Century. Alex Slato, Vice President of Exhibitions and Special Projects and auction specialist, will serve as moderator.

Description: Becoming American: Teenagers and Immigration is an exhibition organized by the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition features 59 riveting black-and-white images of young immigrants by accomplished documentary photographer Barbara Beirne. Each sensitive portrait is paired with excerpts from Beirne's interviews with teens from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. All of their stories are unique, and we read in every quote—and in every face—the individual struggles and hopes of "becoming American."

Description: Latinos have helped lay the groundwork for the advancement of art, law, religion, science, education, commerce, and virtually every other endeavor of American life. Against this backdrop of accomplishment, the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service created Our Journeys/Our Stories: Portraits of Latino Achievement to highlight the diversity of contemporary Latino success in the United States. The exhibition features 24 individuals and one extended family whose stories are told through specially commissioned photographs and biographical profiles containing excerpts from recent Smithsonian interviews. The exhibition, its national tour, and related programs are made possible by the Ford Motor Company Fund.

Description: Flushing Town Hall kicks off its month-long Hispanic Heritage Festival with Latin trombonist Papo Vazquez Pirates Troubadours. Vazquez's Philadelphian/Puerto Rican/Nuyorican roots infuse his playing with Afro Caribbean spirit and soul and the far reaching outlook of jazz. Description: Beyond Baseball: The Life of Roberto Clemente. The baseball diamond has produced legendary athletes who have broken records and shattered barriers. But for many, Roberto Clemente is the most inspiring of all. With a cannon arm and lightning speed, he was an outstanding ballplayer. But the Puerto Rico native was also a dedicated humanitarian. The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, the Smithsonian Latino Center, the Clemente family, and the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (a Smithsonian Affiliate) are pleased to present this exhibition as a tribute to this monumental figure's outstanding achievements on the field and off.
