Smithsonian Media Marketing Internship

- Tenure Dates: Starting in late May 2016, 3 month internship
- Full-time internship, 40 hours/week, unpaid; $1,000 Stipend available.
- Will work with intern for school credit.

The Smithsonian Media Marketing Internship is designed to provide a meaningful, hands-on learning experience. The Smithsonian Media Marketing Internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about all aspects of the media spectrum while making meaningful contributions to marketing, publishing, sales projects as well as for building writing, personal, organizational and project management skills.
Through weekly meetings with the Mentor, the Marketing team and Ad Sales team, the Intern will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the marketing process by assisting with projects in event planning and ad sales, while gaining valuable real-world experience. The Intern will be mentored by the Promotion Coordinator, who will arrange for monthly development meetings to evaluate the skills learned and experiences of the internship, reflect on how they apply to the Intern’s education/career goals, and chart a course for the coming months.
The intern will:
Learn about event marketing by assisting with details, the website and social media surrounding our signature Museum Day Live! event
Develop research and communication skills by corresponding with museums
Learn how to increase museum participation/registration through strategic marketing
Learn other aspects of sales and marketing by assisting with ad hoc projects with the Sales and Marketing team.
The intern candidate who would most benefit from this experience will be thoughtful, self-motivated and academically inclined, with great attention to detail and the ability to work successfully as part of a team. Ideally, we’re looking for excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a professional and courteous manner, and prefer a candidate who is currently enrolled in BA/BS degree program.

The undergraduate internship program is sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors. Strong consideration is given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in journalism, either with journalism as their college major or through work on their college magazine or newspaper.
