A Quick Swim
Eighteen-year-old Johnny Weissmuller sets a new world record by swimming the 100-meter freestyle in 58.6 seconds. In the 1924 and 1928 Olympics, the Hungarian-born swimmer will win a total of six medals (five gold, one bronze). After leaving the pool for Hollywood in 1932, Weissmuller becomes more famous for his role as Tarzan, but uses his swimming experience to execute dramatic diving scenes in his films.
