In 2004, Godzilla: Final Wars was released to mark the 50th anniversary of the first on-screen appearance of the famous radioactive mutant dinosaur. Everyone knew that it would not be the last time audiences would see the monster trash Tokyo, but the studio that owned Godzilla felt that the franchise needed a bit of a rest.

With rumors of an IMAX 3D movie featuring the angry green giant, it might seem that Godzilla doesn't get much rest after all, and in fact he has already stomped across the big screen for a cameo appearance. The 2007 Japanese film Always: Sunset on Third Street 2 begins with Tokyo circa 1959 being flattened by Godzilla.

It turns out that this scene was just a fantasy dreamed up by one of the characters in the drama, but it was good to see Godzilla back on the big screen again. Who knows when he will appear again?
