On of the top nation's top art schools, Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence, has 80,000 works in its museum, ranging from ancient Greek vases to contemporary sculpture, as well as a costume collection and an Egyptian mummy. Its American collection includes paintings by Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, and Mary Cassat, and its French galleries feature Monet, Cezanne and Matisse.

The Warwick Museum of Art, housed in a historic 1912 armory building, exhibits the work of local artists and hosts musical performances, theater and literary readings.
