Was the tree watching me? winking? keeping away the evil eye? I saw it (and it saw me) on my way to the Grand Masters Palace.
Theatre-goers have walked this aisle for over 1,800 years and, until very recently, this theatre dating from 155 was still in use for performances. That's seriously good construction and design.
Torajan funerals are elaborate community events. I'm told that they believe the soul of the deceased goes to the beyond with that of the water buffalo and that this was his grandmother's funeral.
Wonder of nature!
Funerals in Toraja are very elaborate community events. This photo was taken on the third day of a funeral. Every part of the sacrificed water buffalo is used.
Sa'dan is a village known for weaving. The process is time-consuming, with many steps, done by women who envision and create very elaborate designs. One step is spinning.
I'd been to see the tau-tau, in the background some gentle music played. As I walked up the path, I found the source--this man playing his bamboo flute.
These women performed at a village celebration, which I later discovered was held to honor of several young boys (their circumcision). The women sang/chanted a song, more or less a work song sung as t
