THE TSUNAMI WALL UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN RIKUCHU-YAMADA

Part of the tsunami wall in Rikuchū-Yamada. After the 2011 earthquake and tsunami which caused the Fukushima disaster & the direct death of 22,000 people and the disappearance of 8,000 others in the historic Sanriku region, the Japanese government launched the construction of a vast set of giant dikes over 450 kilometres long. Many experts have questioned the effectiveness of this rampart in the face of a future tsunami.
