The Bull Race

The famous traditional bull race in West Sumatra, Indonesia is known as Pacu Jawi. The bull race goes on for 11 months per year, moving between subdistricts in the Tanah Datar regency and the race is always taking place on a muddy field with the distance about 25-35 meters long. The jockey will steer the bulls by holding both of the bulls' tails and his feet on the wooden contraption that bind the cows together. To make the bulls run faster, the jockey will bite either one or sometime both tails. Only the best jockey with years of experience will win the race.
