Sunset outside Arenal Volcano National Park - Costa Rica
When my friend and I graduated from George Washington University with a Master in Tourism Administration: Sustainable Destination Management, we visited Costa Rica. Upon finishing our tour of Arenal Volcano National Park with our local guide, I took this picture of the sunset and wind turbines in the distance. This picture represents sustainable travel in several ways: 1) Conservation of nature through alternative revenue generation, 2) Renewable energy sources, and 3) employment of local people as guides. To me a sustainable travel project provides local people with economic benefits while learning to look at their resources in a new way, and it provides visitors greater appreciation of the local people, their beliefs, and their resources.
