Still Life: Chicken Feet, Beer Bottles, Condom Wrappers

Santeria is a religion with substantial following in Cuba, and adherents of the faith sometimes conduct sacrificial animal rituals, including especially of chickens. I walked through a park on the outskirts of Havana, Cuba on a visit to the city in fall 2016, and was surprised to come across this assortment of items. I had at first seen some white feathers, condom wrappers, empty beer bottles, and then finally, this: a pair of chicken feet dangling eerily in the shadows of the forest park, dancing pirouettes in the streaming light. The feet, at least, were presumably the residual artifacts of a Santeria ceremony held recently in the park.
