Norwegian Wood

Many buildings in the farming lands and fishing areas of Norway are painted falu red, due to its effectiveness in preserving wood. It is created by mixing ochre with cod liver oil (or other vegetable oils or animal oils). These buildings illuminate along the fjords like beacons and are a very distinctive emblem of the Norwegian countryside.
