14th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
I was walking through the rainy forest of Maokong, near Taipei, when I stumbled upon this apparently lost temple, hidden behind a waterfall, unusually void of ornaments. It was damp and cold, mold growing on the walls, but it wasn't abandoned. It smelled of incense, a note was nailed to a newer door, and plants where being watered by the ever falling cascade.
