It is another striking contrast of the country, that such simplicity of being has given birth to such grandeur in architecture: Look up, at the roof of the Punakha Dzong in Punakha, a town in western Bhutan. Traditionally, Dzong fortresses have functioned as centres of religious, military, administrative and social activities for their district and are the key neural nodes of the nation’s community life.
