Bhutan is the only country in the world that professes the tantric form of Mahayana Buddhism (Drupa Kagyu, 75%) while the rest of the population professes Hinduism with Indian and Nepalese influences (25%). Buddhism is the prevalent religion since the 7th century. and has profoundly influenced every aspect of the country's life, so that its teaching is compulsory and only takes place in monasteries.
