Joy

An Ulinggan child jumps with joy holding a lollipop given by a volunteer in the infamous Smokey Mountain district, Manila. Although Manila is the centre of economy to Philippines, majority of the people still lives in slums. Most are local migrants from other parts of the country in search of The Manila Dream, where the reality of the city can be shocking to them. Having no choice, they have made the slums their homes, with debilitating living conditions. The children are left to fend for themselves, education is a rarity with the occasional church mission during Sundays as a form of education. I hope this image will warrant the Government to at least provide the basic necessities to the people, and education to the children.
