14th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
Indonesian woman and child

Taken in the Komodo Islands during a stop at a local island fishing village. The white paste on this woman's face is called "Thanaka", is made from ground tree bark, and is used as a sunscreen. She was very proud of her baby girl and asked me to take a photo of them.
