15th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
I chose this photo because of the amount of emotion this image displays. Many photographs of animals are unique, but this image can relate to the human life. What I mean by this, is that when a sea turtle is flipped onto its back, it is likely that it will not be able to flip back over, causing it to die. The terror and panic that the turtle feels in this moment, is very similar to the panic or terror we feel at various times in our lives. In this scenario, the turtle survived and flipped itself back over and managed to escape. When a viewer sees this image, the story I want them to see is the panic and anxiety that the turtle faced. If the viewer sees this story, they will form an attachment to the image because they can relate this to their own life.
