15th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
feliz año nuevo
Taken during the new years celebrations in the early hours of January 1st 2015 in a small ranch town in central Mexico. The traditions included fireworks shot down long metal tubes with few to no safety restrictions at a family gathering. A few men would run out into the gravel alleyway, hooting and hollering, shoot off a rocket, and then run away for their dear lives. The women and children stayed back at least 100 yards and enjoyed the show.
