Domes of the Byzantine churches of Hagia Sophia and Hagia Eirene in Istanbul, Turkey

Taken while leading an archaeological study tour with Smithsonian Journeys Educational Travel. The Byzantine domes and Ottoman minarets, which were added later, exhibit the great innovations in world architecture of the most significant buildings found in the capital of these two successive empires.
