Canoeing through Early Morning Fog

Wisconsin teachers Seth Reuter (science), pictured, and Staci Sievert (social studies), photographer, volunteer time to lead high school students on 7 day canoe trips in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The trips began in 2010. Students connect with nature gaining a sense of accomplishment, self-confidence and peace. Students learn lifelong outdoor skills while enjoying themselves and nature without technology, motors or energy sources beyond personal manpower. An outcome of weeklong wilderness immersion and living by “Leave no trace” is students’ continued embracement of this philosophy when they return home. Afterall, they are the future of wilderness preservation.
