As the Sun Sets on Civilization

This photo was taken as the sun set over Pompei, a thriving ancient Roman city destroyed by Vesuvius’s eruption in 79 AD. Now, Pompei is known for its iconic ruins and this photo captures a statue left behind that embodies the civilization’s spirit.
