16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
Taken in Switzerland during a recent Interrail trip. Thick shrouds of mist create a sense of travelling into the unknown, which was definitely something I felt at all times, particularly in Switzerland, unable to contact my parents due to data and phone credit costs. However, vivid autumn colours pushing through the fog and the craggy rock faces of the alps serve to showcase the beauty to be found in the world. I chose to include all of the wires and infrastructure as well as the edge of the window as these foreground elements are what connect (and simultaneously contrast) our world to the natural world.
