Up close with the gray whales of San Ignacio Lagoon, Baja California

Sustainable travel benefits the ecosystem, including the wildlife, the natural habitat and the local population. The gray whale calving grounds at San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja California epitomize this mix of well-informed conservation parameters and beneficial impact to all involved. It took me 20 years to make it to the Lagoon since first learning about it while an undergrad at UCSD, and it was worth the wait. We had perfect conditions- calm sea, low wind and extremely friendly whales!
