The ancient desert cities of Chaco Canyon were laid out along precise astronomical lines. The city was laid out on a straight east west meridian. The night skies are endangered around chaco canyon. Oil and gas drilling are creeping to the edges of the park, erasing the ancient skies with a modern glow.
