14th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
My friend, the Green Crested Lizard.
I had my tripod and camera set up to photograph spiders when this little fellow ran into view. It was so well camouflaged against the leafy green rainforest backdrop that I did not notice it till my fellow photographer friend alerted me to its presence. This is the Green Crested Lizard, a native species of Singapore which has been largely displaced by the non-native Changeable Lizard. It is, however, still common in patches of secondary rainforest but rarely spotted.
For me, sustainable travel means exploring the wild sides of an urban city such as Singapore. I have always been fascinated with wildlife as a child and being an academic student in sustainability, I wish to tell the stories of our unseen neighbours thriving alongside us.
