Galapagos travel supporting sustainability

Spending 6 weeks in the Galapagos during 2015 opened my eyes to how the travel industry can both thrive and support sustainable resource use in ecologically sensitive areas. Lindblad Expeditions along with many other tour operators in the Galapagos support sustainable travel through direct financial support of Galapagos National Park, Charles Darwin Foundation and its Research Station. Purchasing food supplies and merchandise from local communities for the tour operator's guests, the income supplements traditional fishing permitted within the Galapagos Marine Sanctuary. Fishing and tourism guided by sustainability principles can go hand in hand to provide locals with long term financial stability.
