End of the day at Manukan Island (Pulau Manukan), Malaysia
Manukan Island is the second largest island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park (Malaysia's first marine national park). While most visitors come just for the day, there are 20 units on the island that allow one to enjoy the park (including the large monitor lizards that live there) when few others are there. Preservation is important in Malaysia where deforestation is jeopardizing wildlife habitats. Malaysia is also a Muslim country whose tourism industry, a key source of income, is suffering due to recent world events. It's important for conscientious travelers to know there safe and interesting places to travel in this part of the world.
