16th Annual Smithsonian.com Photo Contest
Young Mexican American child at Immigration Rally, June 30th, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
After seeing John Moore's iconic image of the little Guatemalan girl watching her mother being frisked by US Border Patrol Agents, I was inspired to photograph a child near her age who has the privilege of living safely in the US. The bicycle and automobile behind her represent forms of freedom which serve to enhance the idea of 'hope' on the child's signage.
