Women taking selfies in front of Hindu goddess Durga
It was the last day of Durga puja, one of the most celebrated festivals of Hindus in the Indian sub-continent. Known as bijayami dashami, the day is observed by offering prayers, Vermilion and sweets to Devi Durga. The married women then put the same vermilion on each others forehead, cheeks and iron bangles. I took this shot in one of the pandals of Siliguri, north Bengal, while watching the white and red saree clad women taking selfies, their faces vibrant with the sindoor(vermilion).
