train to Myitkyina

Where China and India meet: welcome to Burma, Southeast Asia's less visited country and the most interesting place I've ever been. In most states, kids spend their childhood in monasteries. Boys are obliged to go for a while and right after they finish their studies they can decided if they want to become a monk or not. Girls only go to the monastery if they want, but if they don't, their hair must be shaved and ears must be pierced, just liked this little girl on a train from Mandalay to Myitkyina.
