Storytelling at Jagdish Temple in City Palace, Udaipur, India
The photograph depicts a circle of women seated on the ground listening to and depicting religious stories using grains of wheat at Jagdish Temple in City Palace, Udaipur, India. Its a good example of sustainable travel since the the learning and experience of the visiting tourist is not fabricated. The experience maintains the integrity of the cultural norms of the local community and the tourist like myself looks on in wonder at what is an aesthetically beautiful and new experience. The women speak in their own language, develop their depictions and respect their religion at the Temple while the tourist is required to remove shoes, maintain silence and observe for pleasure or learning. A sustainable travel project then is more than one in which economic and social benefits are sought. It seeks to maintain cultural integrity and respect the need to protect the norms, practices and environment for future generations of the local community primarily and indirectly future tourists.
