Margaret and Akuja de Garang, the founder and organizer of the Festival for Fashion and Arts For Peace, also a jewellery designer. She created the annual event and a monthly market 4 years ago in order to celebrate local artisans and designers; to showcase their work and to promote the country’s culture, history and heritage. Akouja studied for 8 years in the UK and returned to South Sudan to appeal for peace and reconciliation. ‘I created an organisation called Made In South Sudan and our work here aims at challenging and changing perceptions amongst South Sudanese and the rest of the world through positive imagery – delivered through arts, crafts, music and food from across South Sudan’.
