Second Grade

These young second graders are learning the Khmer alphabet in a Buddhist school in a village along the Mekong Delta about 150 miles north of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Khmer alphabet has 71 letters. Girls and boys sit separately, and the teacher can be seen in the background--a 19-year-old who teaches the children Math, English and Cambodian history.
