14th Annual Photo Contest
Red Bedouin

This Bedouin lady became my self appointed tour guide after I bought a few necklaces from her. Paying attention locals can be a get decision. She not only showed me the sites were nice photos could be taken, but she kept all the other people away from me. I would have never thought that hiring a local, would be a great advantage in helping me focus on my photography. After an hour or so, she allowed me to take 'this' photo of her. She calmly waited while I set up, changed from my zoom to my 'tack sharp' 60mm macro and determined exposure and fill flash. As soon as I was ready to shoot, she put on her expression; I took one shot and it was exactly what I wanted. For a portrait, I try to convey truths about the subject and their character come out and touch us. The expression on her face captures what I think she must be feeling, having all these tourist invading her home and having to sell necklaces.
