Imao-no-Sagicho Fire Festival

今尾の左義長 (Imao-no-Sagicho) is a Japanese traditional fire festival. It takes place in Kaizu city (Gifu prefecture) at Akiba Shrine, every February from 400 years ago. It is said that burning old amulets 'kadomatsu' for the new year and pacifying it's fire, will bring about good health and harvest. This shot is the moment that young men (flashy makeup) remove ashes derived from 'kadomatsu'.
