Homestay Ladies In the Mountains of Vietnam
In this picture, you can see several women who run homestays in the mountains in northern Vietnam. Four hours by car, from Hanoi, Sapa, a trekking community welcomes foreigners year-round. Rather than having them stay in hotels in the city center, a local social enterprise is training farmers and the tribal families to host visitors. They get a steady stream of guests, learn more English, and make a stable income. The visitors, in return, get a taste of tribal life in Vietnam -- and a far more authentic, earthy experience. The program, which was initiated by Hanoi Open University, has been so fruitful that they're now expanding to new villages and training more ladies on how to run homestays.
