- A riot of colors took at Mathura as hundreds of widows, clad in white sarees, smeared hues of orange, red, yellow on each other. Over the past few decades, thousands of widows have been making this town their home. While some of them go there to devote their lives to Krishna and Radha , most often, these women are looking to escape realities in which they are considered inauspicious. The segregation of widows as per some cultures is so extreme that they are often prevented from attending family gatherings including weddings. Here in this picture the grandmother is playing “Holi” with vibrant colourful flowers and enjoying the Holy Spirit of playing “Holi – the festival of colors” .
