Perspective from a vaporetto on the Canale della Giudecca in Venice, Italy. Four women sit in a gondola, propelled by a gondolier. Gondolas are for tourists; I didn’t see a single local take a gondola ride. An hour-long ride is typically €100. Venetian culture has been idealized and romanticized by preserving and glorifying the favorable aspects of its history. The progression of Venetian culture has been hindered by becoming a tourist spectacle.
