Leyli and Majnun, two youngsters in the 7th –century Arabia, whose tragic love story has been poeticized in numerous works of Oriental poets and writers, are often called “Romeo and Juliet of the East”. The most notably this story was expressed in the poems by great Nizami Ganjavi (12th century) and Muhammad Fuzuli (16th century), both Azerbaijanis by origin. Puppet show staged at the Baku Theatre of marionettes was based at the Fuzuli`s version of this story.
