I recently moved to Lima, Peru to work for MEDLIFE a nonprofit organization that provides medical care for impoverished families. In addition, MEDLIFE listens to what the community needs and completes development projects that are sustainable for years and years to come such as staircases on the side of mountainsides to avoid pregnant women or mothers with young children to fall and get hurt, the elderly from breaking bones when they slip, and children arriving at school and being turned away because they are filthy from the treacherous track they have to make. MEDLIFE has worked with this community in Pamplona Alta from beginning to end in order to build a strong, self-independent, and sustainable village. We have created numerous staircases, built a Wawawasi Day care so children can begin learning at a young age and mothers can go to work during the day. We have built a economical composting toilet, began installing water pylons all in efforts to create a safe and developed environment so the government can finally recognize this community. This recognition will ultimately give the residents a legal land-title so they now can be provided with electricity that is not borrowed by unsafe wires pulled from the towns down below. MEDLIFE has created one of many sustainable communities by working hand in hand with the trusting community and coming back time and time again.
