Crutches

I went straight to church in Vilnius – the Cathedral Basilica – to check out the faithful. They’ve got so much I haven’t, so I’m drawn to them, to their sacred spaces, to their intimacy. When I photographed this scene I thought about the fragility of human beings and how they need supporting. This man, it seemed, had abandoned one set of crutches for another, and now, with all his weight rested, was sinking into the arms of God.
