Ballerina preparing to dance.

This photograph shows the humanity of dancers before they take the stage. In the audience, one sees only the ethereal beauty of the ballerinas, and none of their hard work and humanity. My photograph seeks to reveal the manner in which ballerinas cover their humanity with the beauty of dance. It is only through pain and hard work that dancers are able to achieve the illusion of ease. This photograph shows a dancer putting on her shoes and beginning the illusion that is created through movement. She shows, however, that she is a normal person despite her extraordinary talents that transport the viewer into a land of mystery and fantasy. My mission in this photograph was to show the hard work that is covered up by the beauty of dance.
