Alexander, like Clockwork

Here is a man synonymous with this particular cement block in Vladivostok, Russia. The dilapidated remains of a pier serve as a platform for him to conduct his diving ritual. Like a clockwork, I watch him climb the rock, unmindful of the jagged protrusions, position himself at the edge, tilt his head up almost like a ballet dancer, and fill his lungs with air before he plunges head first into the sea below. Most of us sitting on the seashore wait collectively for him to surface and and swim to the block again..ready for the next (almost) duplicate dive.
