white pelicans flying through a rainbow

American white pelicans are a wetland-dependent migratory bird, and have one of the largest wingspans (nine feet) in North America. They often fly very high in the sky in large groups, and will circle and glide effortlessly together through the skies. Here they are flying below a spot of cloud iridescence, which happens when light is diffracted by very tiny water droplets or ice crystals in the clouds.
