What the Water Gave Me
Marquette is a northern port town of Michigan, and has two very iconic ore docks. One is historical and no longer in use, which is located directly downtown. The other one, which is pictured here, is right next to Presque Isle park. The ore docks are important to the city of Marquette, and are both culturally respected and appreciated. On the day I took this picture, I was very upset and in search of an escape. Lake Superior is probably the strongest and most intense of the Great Lakes, but I’ve always found it to be uniquely relaxing to listen to her waves. So I drove to Presque Isle park, and sat along the rocks in front of this ore dock. Usually Superior is very much alive and active, but on this day the waters were strangely calm and still. It was a new sense of peace to me. To this day, I look at this picture and remember how tranquil it was sitting with Lake Superior. I felt connected to her. She gave me stillness and serenity.
