Vulture warming up on a barn roof

This turkey vulture was perched on a barn roof on the North Fork of Long Island. The morning was chilly, and he was basking in the sunshine trying to warm up enough to fly. When I downloaded the photo I thought my lens had been dirty. Then I realized the tiny spots were actually part of his own ecosystem: gnats.
