The Blue-and-Yellow-Macaws (Ara ararauna) are extremely social birds. They communicate by shrill shouts that can be heard from far away, and they are frequently seen as couples that makr physical contact and take care of each other. These macaws form groups up to 25 indivuduals and inhabit riparian forests and rainforests from Amazon and Cerrado, where they compete for small branches to perch. They usually make their nests in palm tree holes and they also feed on palm’s fruits. The Blue-and-Yellow-Macaw has been suffering from habitat loss in Cerrado, especially because of deforestation and crop raising.
