Structural colour in Morpho Rhetenor
Blue pigments are usually toxic to life, so Nature's way around this problem in many cases is to create blue by the manipulation of white light. The wing scales of this Morpho Rhetenor act like 3-D diffraction gratings reflecting blue light.
